A Queens’s resident was up in arms after suffering from several weeks of sewer line backups and terrible odors throughout her house. She had several plumbers on site to access the situation and was told that the pipe is broken and must be replaced.
She proceeded to obtain a few estimates and was shocked after understanding that the sewer line replacement would cost over $10,000. She did not have the funds and decided to contact Harris Water & Sewer for one last diagnosis before making a formal decision.
She first showed Harris the sewer video inspection that showed a problem at 25’ (video above), all of the other plumbers told her that they could not pass this point and the pipe was no good. It was clear that the water was backing up at 25’, resulting in a foggy image of the pipe however, this does not mean that pipe is broken.
Harris attempted to clear the line one last time and did not have much success, but did get the water to start and flow more than it was. Harris then inserted a magnum cable and “worked the pipe” for another thirty minutes. Suddenly out of nowhere, the water dropped and the sewer line was clear and running! This Queens homeowner was extremely pleased to have saved thousands of dollars and avoid excavating in front of her house for multiple days.

Harris found sanitary napkins and cloth wipes had been clogging the sewer and advised the owner to avoid flushing these two items to avoid any future backups. The owner also began working on a cleaning plan two times per year to maintain the sewer pipe and avoid the current situation from ever happening again.
