Is my water has been a common question asked by many of our customers over the previous two weeks. It all started after experiencing a heavy snow storm earlier in the month. Several of our customers had water leaking from their mains and did not know about it due to the snow covering the leak, or due to freezing conditions.
The freezing conditions restricted water from flowing as normal, we would usually see a stream of water in the street or the curb.
In other scenarios we were notified about water leaks due to a stream of water flowing in the street to find out that it was melting snow, lucky for these homeowners they had nothing to worry about and carried on with their day.
The other group of people had to complete water main installations on an emergency basis which are typically completed in one day for a copper water main.

Larger water mains consisting of 3” ductile iron or greater may end up taking more than one day due to the process for excavating and installing the new water main. When excavating for a ductile iron water line the plumber is always required to trench the roadway in preparation for DEP inspections
