4 Signs Your Home Has Low Water Pressure

When there is a significant drop in your home’s water pressure, the problem makes itself apparent very quickly. However, this isn’t the only way that your water pressure can change. Sometimes, the change is much more subtle, yet it still affects you on a day-to-day basis. Having low water pressure can indicate several other problems that need fixing. Here are some of the signs your home has low water pressure that you should look out for so that you know when to get help.

Having Multiple Fixtures on Affects Water Pressure

If your home has the right amount of water pressure, having more than one faucet going at a time shouldn’t affect one or the other. Try to keep an eye out for when someone’s in the shower and you turn on the sink in the bathroom. Do both lose a little bit of pressure? If so, you may have a water pressure issue that you’ll need to address.

Water Pressure Is Low From Every Fixture

Water pressure problems could be localized to one water source or fixture. A common sign that your home has low water pressure, though, is when you start to notice that every fixture in the house has trouble with weak water pressure. It’s extremely unlikely that every fixture has an individual problem at the same time, which means that the issue goes much deeper than the pipes you can see.

Appliances Working Slower

Another indicator that your home might have low water pressure is when your appliances that use water start to take a lot longer to do their job or don’t do their job effectively anymore. You’ll usually see this happen with something like your dishwasher or washing machine, where a lack of water pressure can reduce efficiency. Showerheads and even sprinklers can have this problem, too, if you have low water pressure.

A Water Pressure Gauge Shows Less Than 40 PSI

If you suspect that your water pressure has some sort of problem, you can confirm it by using a pressure gauge. A reading of somewhere between 45 to 80 PSI is standard for most places. If yours is lower, that is cause for concern. You also want to make sure that the pressure isn’t changing wildly as you measure it. That could indicate a different problem that a plumber needs to help you with.
