Cynthia Gomez was getting her children ready for school Tuesday morning when she became aware of a loud hissing noise in her basement. She ran downstairs to her basement and was quick to witness water spraying from her water main inside the foundation wall of the house.
Harris Water was called to the house to access and analyze how the leaking water main could be repaired. Unfortunately the water main was made of lead and had to be replaced with a new copper water main, as per NYC plumbing code. The replacement was scheduled for the very next morning.
At this time, Harris obtained all required permits and began digging in the roadway to close the “tap connection” at the city main. Two hours later the water was off and the on-site crew began making tunnels for the new copper water main.

Within the next five hours, the new copper pipe was installed from the “short side” of the street, to inside the foundation wall with a new ball valve.
