We first received a call from the homeowner after she had been issued a DEP 3 day notice violation after they became aware that her pipe was leaking under the sidewalk.

The customer called first called Harris Water & Sewer “because I always see your trucks” and was not shy to mention that she would also be calling another company to ensure fair pricing. Due to our standardized pricing program specific to the neighborhood, this was not of any concern and dispatched an estimator to the location within one hour.
We were quick to observe what seemed to be a pretty standard job with an average size water main leak coming from under the sidewalk. Harris was hired to repair the pipe the very next morning and began assisting the homeowner to reserve parking on both sides of the street. We usually request that the homeowner assist in reserving the parking, in this case the owner lived at a different location and could not help.
Once the job began, we started by digging in the street which was pure mud at this point. It was surprising that this much mud had formed in the street when the water was leaking under the sidewalk about 25’ away.

We quickly became aware that there was another water leak from one of the neighbors’ homes and notified DEP on an emergency basis. There was still a job to get done and the on-site crew utilized a water pump to assist in keeping the excavation clear of water.

The rest of the crew continued to dig in preparation for the new copper water main installation.

The new pipe was installed by 2pm the same day and at this point we had to cart clean dirt to backfill the sidewalk. Due to the severity of the leak in the roadway we could not backfill and had to leave a roadway plate until DEP located the source of the other water line leak.
