New Water Main & Sewer Midwood Brooklyn

Recently in Midwood Brooklyn a developer purchased two side by side pieces of land with big plans. He completely demolished both houses before starting construction for a 6,000 square foot house. The house now required a new water main and sewer as per the DEP and DOB approved plans. Once all of the plans were approved, and the permits were released, Harris Water & Sewer began excavation for the new sewer line. The new sewer line  is to be installed from the existing spur connection on the city sewer, to inside the front wall of the house with a new double vented sewer trap.

Progress

**The licensed plumber must follow a set of plans (SD 1&2) which will provide details on how the sewer line should be installed. These details will include everything from elevations, to the type of connection into the city sewer.

“Attachment F”

Harris was able to install new pipe from the city sewer to inside the property line in one day. The DOB was on site at the days end to inspect the pipe before Harris was able to backfill the roadway. In most cases the plumber is not allowed to install sewer pipe through a tunnel, in this scenario there was a large tree in the exact location of where the sewer excavation had been completed. For this reason Harris was allowed to install the pipe in a tunnel from the roadway, to the property.

Preparing sewer pipe

After the sewer was completed Harris had scheduled a new wet connection on the city water main. A wet connection is the valve that connects the private water main, to the city water main and must be installed by DEP. After the plumber excavates and exposes the city water main, DEP now installs a new wet connection.

The new water main is now installed with a curb valve on the sidewalk and a new OS&Y valve inside the basement. At this point the pipe requires a DEP inspection before the excavations are backfilled and the job is completed.
