The emergency crew was dispatched to a two family house in queens after the homeowner became aware that her lead water main was leaking inside her utility closet. Her son setup a temporary fix to divert the water leak into her sewer. The temporary diversion allowed for some breathing room and avoided her house from flooding.
The crew began digging for the new 1” copper pipe replacement at 11 AM and continued working throughout the day, until 7 PM in the evening. Due to the fact that the existing water main was made of lead, there was no option but to replace the entire water line with copper pipe. As per the DEP plumbing code, it is 100% illegal to make a repair on a lead water main in NYC.

After all of the roadway and property excavations were completed, the crew began pulling the new copper from one hole, to the next. The new copper piping included 60’ of new 1” copper pipe from the city main, to inside the building where the new copper is connected to the existing internal piping.
