Harris Water Main & Sewer Contractors recently completed a new 8” drill in sewer connection for a new building being constructed on the corner of Atlantic Av. and Boerum Pl. Harris Water also installed a new 8” fire sprinkler main and a new 3” domestic water main for the new building. Both of the water services were connected to the city water main with wet connection valves as per the DEP approved plans.
Prior to the installation process, Harris had to get all plans approved for the water mains and sewer. The new drill in sewer connection required a new site connection approval. The water services required a cross connection approval for the backflow devices as well as DOB (Department of Buildings) approved plans. All plans were approved by the buildings architect and given to Harris for DEP and DOT permits. Once the permits were released, Harris was able to schedule the DEP to install the new wet connection valves.
Harris begins opening roadway
Harris began by working on the new sprinkler main and domestic water service to prepare for the DEP wet connection installations. The roadway was opened and prepared the city water main for the next day installation of the wet connections.
Installing new pipe
Both wet connections were installed with no problem as well as the ductile iron piping. DEP inspections were completed the very next day and at this point the on-site crew began working on the sewer line installation.
Core drill for new sewer connection
The city sewer was exposed and cemented in preparation for the new drill in sewer connection which would take place the next day, in front of a DEP inspector. The remainder of the sidewalk and property were opened and the new 8” cast iron sewer pipe was installed and inspected.
