A homeowner in Little Neck Queens was awoken on Tuesday evening after hearing an after-hours knock at her front door. She was alarmed once she became aware that a DEP truck was parked outside of her house. The DEP supervisor requested to check her water main due to a water leak surfacing on her property, which was leaking onto the public sidewalk. He was quick to diagnose and determine the water was coming from her water main and issued her a 3 day notice.
The homeowner called her local plumber of the previous 20 years for guidance, he instructed her to contact a licensed plumber who held a DOT bond to open the roadway. At this point she was referred to Harris Water & Sewer who began working the very next morning.
The leak |
After all permits had been obtained, Harris began excavating in the roadway to close the city connection and stop the leak.
After four hours of digging, they were ready to complete the underground tunnels and start to install the new copper tubing.
Copper being installed
By 2pm the new copper was installed form inside the house, all the way to the city main where it was connected.
The final connection
By 4pm the holes were back filled and the homeowner had a brand new water main in her house, she was also pleasantly surprised that she was now receiving better water pressure in her house. This is a common result when upgrading to a new copper water main in Queens.
